Prepare for an Interview

Ready to Interview?

You’ve got a killer resume, a great elevator pitch, you know where to look and what to look for. Now it’s time to start applying and have those interview requests roll in! It’s time to begin preparing for interviews (even if you don’t have one yet!) to guarantee you are ready to rock and roll when the invitation comes in.

Here’s where to begin:

Learn the S.T.A.R.T. Method of Interviewing.  Prior to going in for your interview, make sure you take a good hard look at the job you’re applying for and use clues from the job description to prepare your S.T.A.R.T. answers (check out the Decoding a Job Description handout to learn how to identify keywords). By picking out which skills the company is specifically looking for or are required for the job, it will help you target your success stories. To learn more about the S.T.A.R.T. Method, check out our Guide to Interviewing Success!

Develop stories for the S.T.A.R.T. Method of Interviewing.  Reflect on your skills and experiences as they related to the 8 Career Ready Competencies using this worksheet. Now, take those experiences and develop them into a story you can use to respond to a behavioral interview question. And we’ve made it easy on you by providing you with another worksheet that will help you prepare for an interview (and gives you a great example!).

Practice the S.T.A.R.T. Method of Interviewing by scheduling a Mock Interview with a Career Coach. We will help you refine your interview style and ensure you are using the best possible examples to showcase your unique value and strengths!
