The Reporting Project is seeking a student journalist to serve as reporter for Journalism at Denison’s nonprofit news team during the fall semester. Students can expect to work up to 10 hours per week and may have the opportunity to gain bylines in local news publications.
Responsibilities:
The Reporting Project Student Reporter will pitch story ideas, research, interview, report, write and edit stories for the news platform (www.thereportingproject.org), take photos or secure visual assets, and work on short- and long-term projects as assigned by the editorial team. Reporters may be responsible for laying out stories on Shorthand (multimedia platform). Some projects will be independent, and others will require collaboration with an editor. Proper training and support will be provided.
Qualifications:
We are seeking motivated students who are self-starters with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and collaborate. This position requires the courage to take risks to chase a story. Denisonian experience is a plus. Preference given to Journalism and Narrative Journalism students. Basic knowledge of news writing is required.
Requirements: One semester working on the Denisonian staff or one journalism class. Preference given to students who have completed JOUR 100 Intro to News Writing & Reporting.
