Summer Enrichment Camp Assistant Teacher Job Description
As an assistant teacher in a summer enrichment camp, your role involves supporting the lead teacher and ensuring a positive and engaging experience for the scholars.
Summer Camp Assistant Teacher Duties and Responsibilities
• Assisting Lead Teachers: Support lead teachers in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum, activities, lessons, and projects. This could include academics, arts and crafts, sports, outdoor games, or science experiments.
• Supervising Scholars: Supervise scholars during arrival, dismissal, breaks, meals, snack, enrichment activities, and field trips to ensure scholars are safe and always accounted for in all environments.
• Providing Instruction and Guidance: Assist scholars in acquiring new skills and cultivating interests through offering guidance, instruction, and motivation across various academic pursuits, recreational activities, and project endeavors.
• Managing Behavior: Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive enrichment camp environment by managing scholars’ behavior according to enrichment camp rules and policies. Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage good behavior and address any disciplinary issues calmly and effectively.
• Supporting Individual Needs: Be attentive to the individual needs of scholars, including physical, emotional, and social needs. Offer extra support or accommodations to scholars with special requirements or challenges.
• Ensuring Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to mitigate the risk of accidents and injuries. Remain vigilant and ready to act swiftly and appropriately during emergencies, including administering first aid and promptly contacting emergency services if required.
• Facilitating Teamwork and Cooperation: Promote teamwork, collaboration, and positive sportsmanship among scholars. Assist in resolving conflicts and fostering constructive interactions to cultivate a harmonious environment.
• Assisting with Logistics: Assist with daily logistical tasks such as setting up and cleaning up activity areas, organizing supplies and equipment, distributing snacks and meals, and escorting scholars to various locations while maintaining an organized and conducive environment that encourages creativity and facilitates learning.
• Communicating with Parents/Guardians: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding scholar’s progress, behavior, and any concerns. Provide updates and feedback as needed to ensure parents/guardians are informed and involved in their scholar’s enrichment camp experience.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Be flexible and willing to assist with other duties or responsibilities as assigned by leadership to support the overall operation of the summer enrichment camp program.
Assistant Teachers may be assigned to a specific group or may float between classrooms to support needs as they arise.

Typical Day:
Monday to Thursday, the schedule runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During this time, scholars have breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. From 9:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., they rotate between classes including ELA, Math, and SEL, with a snack break included. At 11:50 a.m., scholars tidy up and prepare for lunch, which is served from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. Following lunch, at 12:30 p.m., there is a 15-minute quiet time for scholars to rest. From 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., various enrichment programs and activities are offered, such as physical education, golf, tennis, entrepreneurship, painting decorative rocks/community garden, arts & crafts, board games, drums, dance, singing, as well as outdoor activities including walks to the park. Fridays are primarily reserved for field trips.
