Press Fellow Job Description
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) is hiring a Press Fellow to support its communications team in 2024. The Press Fellow will assist with press releases, press outreach, media monitoring, research, copywriting, social media, and more.
We are seeking a highly organized and motivated individual majoring in Political Science, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, with a passion for political communications and a keen ability to meet tight deadlines. The ideal candidate should be a team player, eager to learn, and possess excellent organizational skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Our team is virtual, with staff in DC and around the country.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining internal press shop systems, including building press lists, maintaining internal tracking systems, and preparing for rapid response communications.
- Writing press outreach materials and assisting in packaging stories for reporters.
- Assisting with outreach to reporters.
- Sends daily clips to the press team, including any mentions of the PCCC and any relevant news about issues and campaigns we support, as well as identifying important breaking news stories as they arise.
- Conduct in-depth research on policy matters, meticulously analyze previous reporting, track election events and candidate statements, and develop a keen understanding of the current political zeitgeist to inform and enhance our press coverage.
- Assist with social media for the organization.
- Additional responsibilities as needed and assigned.
Salary and Hiring
The ideal candidate would be available for 10-20 hours of work for the remainder of the school year and full time thereafter through the election. The hourly rate for this position is $20, and following the role’s transition to full-time will offer a salary range of $40,000-60,000, including fully-paid healthcare benefits. An evaluation will take place after the election, at which point a permanent, full-time position may be offered.
This position will report to the Press Secretary.
