Introducing Andrianna Sheriff, a 2018 Denison graduate! Andrianna double majored in Communications and Sociology and Anthropology. During her time at Denison, Andrianna was involved in Tehillah, Sisters in Dialogue and was an employee at the writing center. She also held positions as a communications fellow and the president of the national communications association’s honor society, Lambda Pi Eta all while being a cheerleader and working at the writing center.
Immediately after graduating from Denison, Andrianna began working in the City of Cleveland mayor’s office through the Cleveland Foundation Public Service Fellowship. There she was able to leverage her knowledge in communications while working for the next three years under Mayor Jackson in the social media strategies and narrative change area.
Andrianna also went on to work at the architectural firm, Bialosky where she did marketing and business development, before eventually becoming a consultant at Thirdspace Action Lab, a consulting firm dedicated to community organizing and combating exploitation against low-income communities of color. At Thirdspace, Andrianna gets to use particular research strategies and designs to actualize racial equity, which she says Denison has prepared her well for. Denison had also prepared Andrianna for her master’s program and her overall desire to work with people, which stems from her sociological and anthropological background.
For people interested in Andrianna’s field, she advises them to maintain a student mentality and be open to opportunities. Always be open to learning, through either academia or everyday life. For Andrianna, “the beauty of having that multidisciplinary background is, you can jump in different places and excel,” which is exactly what Denison provides. With this in mind, Andrianna also advises to not limit yourself based on your major and to make more efforts to connect and network with your fellow Denisonians.
