Summary:
The Design Assistant will provide design support for various Theater, Dance, Musical Theater, and Music department performances. The Design Assistant will support the staff Theatrical Designer in their design process for various productions. In this position, the student will collaborate with shops, maintain design paperwork, and gain hands-on experience as part of a design team. Experience collaborating between departments in a theatrical/performance context preferred. Basic understanding of design elements and principles or design experience is a plus.
Essential Job Functions:
- Support the Theatrical Designer in the design process for various productions throughout the semester. This could be fulfilled by maintaining paperwork, collaborating with shops, or various other tasks that support the design process prior to Tech Week.
- Conducting research to support projects related to various productions and performances. This research could include historical research, visual research, or research to ensure best practices.
- Provide support during Tech Week—whether present at nighttime rehearsals or notes during the day—they will support the design team by performing various tasks based on production needs.
- Build upon skills related to lighting/scenic areas through hands-on projects related to production. Gain confidence in ability to practically problem solve in a time crunch utilizing the resources available in Eisner.
- If possible with class schedule, attend production meetings to engage with the full creative team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating between departments in a theatrical/performance context
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of design elements and principles or theatrical design experience.
