Explore healthcare from a clinical, public health, and community standpoint!
Want to interact with local healthcare professionals in both an academic and clinical space? Interested in working with patients in the local community? Now is your chance! This program is provided in partnership with Licking Memorial Hospital and Denison’s Knowlton Center for Career Exploration.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Participation will involve enrollment in an experiential learning course for both Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
Fall 2024: INTD100, 1 credit hour
The seminar course in the Fall will contextualize wellness, provide insight into obstacles to optimal healthcare and prepare you to serve as an ambassador within the Licking County community. You will attend lectures given by professional healthcare providers, participate in frequent class discussions, read articles, and analyze patient case studies.
Spring 2025: INTD101, 1 credit hour
In the Spring, you will be assigned to a community patient and meet weekly at their residence. As a student health coach in the practicum course, you will assist your assigned at-risk patient with setting and meeting wellness goals, identifying and overcoming obstacles for these goals, and will serve as a support system for this process. The practicum will also involve meeting weekly with peers and Licking Memorial Health representatives to report on the progress of your patient.
