Becoming a Great Conversationalist

In this audio-only course from How to Be Awesome at Your Job, journalist Celeste Headlee breaks down the steps towards becoming a better conversationalist. Listening is the top skill required to become a better conversationalist, but listening skills are tough to develop. Developing solid listening skills requires a whole change in habits to be present and refrain from multitasking. Truly listening in an engaged way creates a powerful connection. After discussing listening skills, Celeste dives into the art of being brief. In shortening your message to only the most essential components, you’re being considerate to your listener. She also advises you to try listing your pet peeves. Then take that list and ask, “Okay, how many of these things do I do?” The answers you find may be eye-opening as you journey toward stronger conversational skills.
