Exploration in Action: Career Trek to Bath & Body Works HQ

At the heart of career exploration is the opportunity to see potential career paths in action. A group of students had just that chance during a recent exclusive visit to Bath & Body Works HQ in nearby Reynoldsburg, Ohio, where they toured the company’s facility and engaged with alumni working across various areas of the business.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Career Possibilities

From product development to marketing, supply chain logistics to corporate strategy, students got an inside look at the many career opportunities within a major retail and consumer goods company. The visit began with a guided tour of the facility where students were able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the brand’s innovation and operations – including the Sample Library (housing every BBW product since 2008) and the Mock Store for a visual merchandise demonstration. Students were able to see how different departments collaborate, reinforcing the idea that career paths can be dynamic and interconnected.

Connecting with Alumni: Real-World Career Insights

One of the highlights of the visit was engaging with a panel of industry professionals, including five Denison alumni who have built successful careers at Bath & Body Works. Students had the opportunity to hear from:

  • Abbey Bernard ’05, AVP Merchandising (Communication & English Literature)
  • Claire Horn ‘09, Senior Human Resources Manager (History & Political Science)
  • Allison Jeffers ’14, Supply Chain Planner (Communication)
  • Kait Zhang ‘15, Regulatory Specialist (Chemistry)
  • Nathan Beegle ’93, VP Logistics (Physics)
  • James Prysock III, Sr. Manager DEI
  • Aaron Hawk, Talent Acquisition Leader

Each panelist shared their professional journeys, offering advice on navigating career decisions, internships, and entry-level roles. Hearing directly from alumni who once stood in their shoes helped students gain real-world perspectives on how majors, internships, and personal interests can translate into fulfilling careers.

How Employer Visits (Treks) Support Career Exploration

For students still exploring their career options, experiences like this bridge the gap between classroom learning and the professional world. Career Treks provide:

  • Exposure to Different Career Paths – Students see the variety of roles available in a single company, often sparking interest in areas they hadn’t previously considered.
  • Networking Opportunities – Building relationships with alumni and professionals opens doors to mentorship, internships, and job opportunities.
  • Hands-On Learning – Observing workplace environments and asking questions helps students understand company culture and industry trends.
  • Confidence in Career Decision-Making – Hearing alumni stories reassures students that career paths are not always linear, encouraging them to explore options. The importance of being curious, open and flexible were key themes shared by the alumni.

Participants agreed this career trek was a valuable learning experience. Maya Thornton ‘26 shared the following:

“Participating in the Bath & Body Works Trek was an eye-opening experience that gave me direct access to industry professionals, real-world insights, and a clearer sense of the career paths available to me. While I am a Data Analytics and Psychology double major, attending this trek allowed me to realize that there are so many different ways that I am able to potentially use the skills that I am receiving from my Liberal Arts education here at Denison. Engaging with companies and alumni in a hands-on setting not only expanded my network but also helped me refine my career interests and goals. To me, this Trek not only provided me with a wonderful experience but reminded me that hands-on learning and experience are part of the reason that I chose Denison in the first place.”

This powerful reflection highlights the impact of career treks—offering not just exposure, but real connections and deeper self-discovery.

Looking Ahead

The Bath & Body Works visit was an inspiring and enlightening experience for all involved. Whether students left with a newfound interest in retail, a connection for a future internship, or simply a broader perspective on career possibilities, one thing was clear—career exploration is most effective when experienced firsthand.

“From insightful conversations with Denison alums to an inside look at Bath & Body Works’ operations, this trek was a perfect blend of learning and networking.” -Sneha Sarraf ‘27
