Brief description of your role and responsibilities.
In my position, I oversaw the library’s summer reading program, “Bookworm,” and the youth volunteer program that works in conjunction with Bookworm. I aided in the planning and implementation of programs for all ages that fulfilled requirements for Bookworm and trained/assisted teenage volunteers in the program. When I was not actively working on a program, I worked the reference desk to connect patrons with resources, shelved and worked with books in circulation, and supervised the children’s areas of the library.
How has this internship influenced your career direction?
This internship fueled my love for libraries. I got to work with a wide variety of patrons daily and got to know them on a personal level. My work with patrons has inspired me to look into career fields within libraries in which I can utilize my knowledge as an Educational Studies major, coupled with my passion for literacy.
What advice do you have for future interns?
Make the most of your time during your internship by asking questions and getting to know those around you! Whether it be your coworkers, supervisors, clientele, or anybody else you interact with during your work, you can learn so much from the people around you.
