Campus Involvement: Pi Beta Phi Sorority & Big Brother Big Sister

Internship Site: Bright Future Foundation

Internship Location: Vail, Colorado

Brief description of your role and responsibilities:

This summer at Bright Future Foundation I was the summer intern for a local nonprofit in the Vail Valley. Bright Future Foundations work with victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse. We are an emergency shelter that can house up to 5 family members and pets. I worked at the office 2 days a week where I would help prepare for fundraisers and events being held throughout the summer. I also helped with social media and would get posts prepared. Another task I focused on was sending donation receipts to my supervisor and get all our donation receipts organized. Throughout the whole summer, I did an additional 40-hour training in which I am now able to answer our Bright Future Hotline Calls which I am going to do here at Denison!

How has this internship influenced your career direction?

This internship has 100% influenced my career direction in the sense that I want to be in the field of work where I am helping people who have gone through something traumatic in a psychological sense. Even though I was not technically working with clients, I was observing the ones that were.

What advice do you have for future interns?

The advice I have for future interns is to take the opportunity…. even if it is not exactly what you want to do it is a great experience to have and knowledge to have and know for later in life!
