Major: Chemistry (pre-engineering)
Campus Involvement: President of Outdoors Club, spin instructor, Wellness Ambassador, Chemistry lab TA, violinist in orchestra
Internship Site: Grailville
Internship Location: Loveland, OH
Brief description of your role and responsibilities:
As an intern at Grailville, I had the opportunity to design my own project. As an aspiring chemical engineer, I decided to build and implement a compost system that maximizes heat generation and compost quality for The Grail’s future use.
How has this internship influenced your career direction?
This internship has allowed me to understand the wide range of opportunities available for chemical engineers to pursue. I never knew how much chemistry was involved in compost before I led this project.
What advice do you have for future interns?
Look for local organizations and create your own internship! That is exactly what I did, and it benefits both you and the organization.
Aside from your internship, are there other tools, resources or programs that have supported your career exploration?
In addition to my internship this summer, I also had the opportunity to volunteer for the Galapagos National Park in Ecuador for three weeks on environmental conservation work. This solidified my love for environmental conservation work within chemical engineering.
