Beginning of the Semester: Resources and Top 5 Pieces of Advice

The beginning of the semester is such a fun and exciting time where we get to meet new people, enter new classes, and flourish on our little hill! It is great to start off on the right foot which means preparing yourself for the semester ahead, start reaching out for additional help, and utilizing all the resources possible. Good thing the Knowlton Center is here to help!

What are some Knowlton Resources I should know about?

  3. Knowlton Connect
    • A platform with loads and loads of information regarding career communities, resume templates, blog posts, career ideas, etc.

What are some organizations to get involved with on campus if interested in the Healthcare, Clinical Research, and Wellness career community?

Finally, I will leave you with my Top 5 Personal Pieces of Advice:

  1. Get organized
    • Visit ARC (academic resource center) and get an academic calendar
    • Use Google Calendar (my personal favorite!): plan out your classes, meetings, extracurriculars, deadlines, breaks, and homework time
    • Get a physical planner: Write out all the important dates, deadlines, exams, etc. now so you can look at your entire semester
  1. Visit your professor’s office hours early on
    • Get to know them!
    • Do not be afraid to ask questions
      • How I combatted this was the first couple of times, I went with a classmate and had a group discussion on the things we were confused about
  2. Get involved!
    • There are about 168 organizations on campus, find at least one that either speaks to your academic interests or hobbies
    • This is a good way to meet people, get helpful resources, take part in fun events, etc.
  3. Explore Granville
    • There are a ton of restaurants and cafes in town (a lot of which take Denison dollars)
    • You can get a Granville library card!
    • It is simply beautiful to walk around the neighborhoods and Sugar-Loaf Park
  4. Keep your resume up to date with new experiences
    • You never know when a new experience, internship, or job might present itself- so always have it updated or start your resume
    • The Knowlton Center is the best resource to use for this!
