Introducing the Peer Career Fellows: Virginia Swain

Hi! My name is Virginia, and I am a Senior from Birmingham, Alabama. I am a Global Commerce major with a trans-regional concentration where I focus on the intricate historical, economic, and cultural connections between Northern Africa and Western Europe. In addition to Global Commerce, I am also a French major and love that I have the opportunity to take an interdisciplinary track to my education by combining my interests in business and linking it to history and language. At Denison, I have worked as a French Teaching Assistant and tutor and am a part of WIB. I am also currently working on a research project with the Global Commerce department this Fall semester focusing on AI and inequality.

Last Spring, I completed a study abroad program in Paris, where I had the amazing opportunity to intern for URACA Basiliade, which is a non profit organization that helps immigrants with sexual health education and prevention. With them, I created surveys, facilitated events and workshops, adjusted Excel spreadsheets to better display data, and researched marketing trends and regulations for non-profit organizations in France. This past summer, I interned for Middleton Senior Living where I facilitated their social media posts and helped with their annual charity event.

I love connecting with and helping my peers, so I am excited to be a Peer Career Fellow for the Marketing, Sales, and Communications community! I understand the stress of applying for internships and jobs, so I look forward to helping my peers with this process.

I am excited to be working with the Knowlton Center, take advantage of the resources, and if you have any questions feel free to email me at swain_v1@denison.edu
