For those of you who are interested in Finance, maybe you have noticed that this is a largely male-dominated field. Have you ever thought that there is a support group out there that seeks to empower and prepare young women with necessary knowledge and skills for a career in Finance? We have good news for you – Girls Who Invest (GWI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of women in portfolio management and executive leadership in the asset management industry by having 30% of the world’s investable capital managed by women by 2030.
So why does this matter to you?
For one, being a woman in finance can be challenging, especially as you progress in your career. So having a support system from a community of inspiring and outstanding women in the field who can be there for you along the way is a major benefit.
But here’s the kicker. Girls Who Invest offers 2 programs – Summer Intensive Program (SIP) and Online Intensive Program (OIP) – that will prepare you with a solid foundation to begin your career in finance.
The first program for college sophomores consists of four weeks of academic instruction followed by seven weeks of a paid internship at a leading investment firm. This intensive and immersive program is an incredible opportunity to explore a career in finance and investment as part of a supportive community.
The OIP program for college freshmen and sophomores is a self-guided learning experience that allows students to learn core finance and investment concepts while participating in an independent internship or summer job concurrently. Students in this program can earn a certificate from Girls Who Invest as well as certificates from their educational partners, CFA Institute, Wall Street Prep and Wharton Online.
