Students Get EXPERIENCE w/ Praxis In the Arts!

From The Columbus Museum of Art to commercial photography in California to design experience for art magazines…. here’s what a few of your fellow Studio Art majors have experienced through internships- thanks to Praxis In The Arts!

Charlie Song, a current senior, worked for Contemporary Art Matters in Columbus! He managed inventory, helped to build a social media presence, and worked to install gallery pieces. This opportunity allowed Charlie to learn about a commercial environment.

Shruti Shankar, a graduate from class of 2021, is enjoying her new position working in the Columbus Museumof Art’s education program to better understand how to foster creativity and deep learning within others. Congratulations to Shruti on this amazing opportunity!

Ryan Metzger, a current junior, worked for Contemporary Art Matters in Columbus along with Charlie! He managed inventory, helped to build a social media presence, and worked to install gallery pieces. This opportunity allowed Ryan to learn about a commercial environment.

Anya Nelson, a current senior, worked with Denison Edge, an extension of the Knowlton Center, to gain more experience in marketing and photography. Anya is grateful to have learned a lot about start-up company marketing and networking.

Yuan Liu, a current senior, worked with photographer Lindsay Ross, who graduated from Denison in 2003! They worked in Santa Barbara, California to create commercial analog photography. Yuan got to experience what it’s like to be a professional photographer and also installed his own work!

Peter Loughlin, a current senior, worked with MAAKE magazine this summer to gain a unique and personable experience where he learned the ins and outs of Adobe InDesign, working with a grid layout, and updated the MAAKE magazine website regularly using Squarespace. Peter also got the opportunity to design the front cover for the 12th issue of the magazine!

Ramsey Bristol, who graduated in Spring 2021, also worked with Lindsay Ross! Alongside Yuan, Ramsey created their own commercial analog photography in California. Ramsey currently lives in California and takes photos professionally!

Kate Hinshaw, a current sophomore, interned at Redux Contemporary Art Center located in Charleston, South Carolina. She learned about installing work, putting on a successful exhibition, interacting with fellow artists, and understanding the educational component of art. Kate would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone who is unsure of what they want to do professionally!

Nadeem Jones, a current sophomore, was a studio art summer scholar and worked with professor Keith Spencer to create expressive paintings that centered around merging his interests in pre-med and his painting practice! Using stitching and vibrant colors, Nadeem recently presented his work in the gallery space here at Denison!

Henry Selden, a current senior, worked for himself this summer in order to continue working on his personal brand, Lazydog! Henry used his graphic design and sewing skills to put together a line of loungewear clothing to sell online and to fellow students!

Ellie Schrader, a current junior, was a studio art summer scholar and worked with professor Ronald Abram to merge her love of Japanese culture and art to create various custom prints! Using multi-media approaches, Ellie made use of the RISO printer and recently presented her work in the gallery space here at Denison!

Deborah Garner, a current senior, interned at Camp Asbury in Hiram, Ohio. Deborah was the art specialist and taught arts and crafts to kids from ages 6 – to 18! There was also an extensive ceramics aspect to the programming which was a great learning experience for Deb to be a part of! She would highly recommend working at a summer camp if you are interested in pursuing a career in art education!

Aileen Schretzmayer, a current junior, was a studio art summer scholar and worked with professor Sheliah ReStack to create a photo book from her home state of New York! Aileen took street pictures in New York City, and recently presented her work in the gallery space here at Denison!

Maddie Kuentz, a current senior, worked for TransTec and Corteco, a parent company of Freudenberg-NOK.  Maddie took pictures for them, maintained their social media, created corporate design material, and updated their internal website. Maddie is grateful she got to use her photography, Photoshop, and Lightroom skills.

Grace Kennedy, a current junior, interned with her father this summer to create children’s book illustrations for Pennsylvania Cyber Schools. Grace created over 400 original drawings this summer as part of an ongoing project that will go into summer 2022!
