Black Public Relations Pioneers

In honor of the start of Black History Month, take some time to learn about some of the pioneers of the public relations industry.  Did you know that the first female Anglican bishop, Barbara Harris, also enjoyed a long career in public relations? Harris handled major media relations accounts for “The Jeffersons” TV show, RCA, Harry Belafonte, and Marian Anderson. Or did you know about Dr. Jesse J. Lewis, Sr., an accomplished advertiser that started his a marketing firm on his college campus in 1952? Lewis would go on to alter the advertising landscape with his work while also contributing to public policy and serving as the President of Lawson State Community College.

You can read more about Harris, Lewis, and more industry trailblazers in this article on The Museum of Public Relations.
